Venezuela Condemns Trump Oil Blockade Move

(MENAFN) Venezuela has condemned United States President Donald Trump's oil embargo against the nation, asserting his "interventionist and colonialist" language exposes Washington's enduring strategy to capture Venezuelan natural wealth.

Trump revealed the policy through a Truth Social message Tuesday, characterizing it as "a total and complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers going into, and out of, Venezuela."

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez issued an official government declaration late Tuesday stating Trump's comments exposed the "true intention" of the United States "to take over the oil, land, and minerals of Venezuela."

Caracas rejected Trump's assertion that Venezuela had "stolen" assets from Washington and condemned his language as "interventionist and colonialist." Authorities accused the US president of breaching international law, free trade principles, and maritime navigation rights by directing US naval assets in the Caribbean to block "sanctioned tankers" from accessing or departing Venezuelan territorial waters.

"Through his social media statements, the president of the United States assumes that Venezuela's oil, land, and mineral wealth belong to him," the statement said. "On that basis, he seeks to impose a naval military blockade with the objective of robbing the riches that belong to our homeland."

Rodriguez characterized Washington's measures as components of a "gigantic campaign of lies and manipulation" designed to legitimize seizing the country's natural resources. She emphasized that the US has consistently pursued economic and political control over Venezuela across successive administrations.

Officials pledged Venezuela would invoke protections under international law, its constitution, and the UN Charter, reinforcing sovereignty over natural resources and maritime commerce rights throughout the Caribbean and internationally.

"Venezuela will never again be a colony of an empire or any foreign power," the statement said.

Since September, the US military has killed more than 80 people in attacks on alleged cartel boats, which Trump claimed were being used by the Venezuelan government to "flood" America with narcotics. Venezuela has denied any involvement in drug trafficking and said the strikes were part of a regime change plot to plunder the country's natural resources.
