Thousands of protests in Venezuela call for Maduro’s release

(MENAFN) Large crowds gathered in Caracas on Wednesday to call for the release of President Nicolas Maduro following US military action in the country. Demonstrators carried images of Maduro and former President Hugo Chavez in a show of support for the ousted leader and his government.

The rally was organized by the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and included motorcyclist convoys moving through major streets of the capital. Speakers at the event emphasized that the gathering was a protest aimed at demanding Maduro’s freedom, rather than a celebration.

PSUV officials voiced full support for the interim government led by Delcy Rodriguez and stressed the importance of national unity. “Unity is not up for debate,” one official said, urging all citizens to contribute to the country’s cohesion. Officials also called for the immediate return of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores to Venezuela.

Additional demonstrations are planned, with educators expected to march in Caracas to mark Teachers’ Day and further demand the release of the country’s leaders. The protests come amid heightened tensions following foreign military involvement and widespread public unrest.
